In September 2024, I was invited to work as an artist-in-residence to ELPA Residency in Livani, Latvia for 3 weeks. The residency consisted of several artistic explorations, various field trips to local cultural centers and museums, as well as a field trip to Daugavpils to visit the Mark Rothko Museum. In the residency, I examined the acts of felting and unfelting in the countryside of Latvia, where fibers merge into the unknown, emerging together with the autumn period and the landscape. The fibers are a combination of Alpaca wool donated by the nearby local farm  Alpaku Sala, sheep wool from Estonia, Norway and Turkey. The yarns are from a 2nd hand shop found in Livani, from an old couple. I took inspiration from the landscape, the feel of wool, weather conditions, and the visual aesthetics of traditional textiles from the region.
The ELPA Art and Design Residency is a place where artists and cultural practitioners from various countries and fields come together to work on their projects. It serves as a space for the exchange of ideas, acquiring new knowledge, and implementing ideas that have arisen at intersections.
